I didn't want to write this book. It goes against my grain. I am a positive, optimistic person, and the subject matter of this work is dark and foreboding.It speaks of a time when my meticulous preparations fail, and I have to resort to the very behavior that I have campaigned to eradicate. It advocates and teaches skills and actions that I despise in others. Yet, the very creed of self-reliance is preparing---for whatever may happen. Are we so confident that the proverbial S will HTF only one time? Where is it written that society will immediately bounce back, returning civilization quickly to its pre-SHTF state? Is there no such thing as TEOTWAWKI II? What happens when my preparations are not enough?Our forefathers possessed skills that we respect, in which they lived valuable lives without the advantages of electricity and other modern conveniences. Despite all of their self-reliance, skills, and knowledge, disaster still struck. Drought, Indian raids, war, and even weather that destroyed crops endangered their lives. They often struggled to survive, despite all of their preparations. In a post-SHTF society, there will likely be no resources for an already starving population if disaster strikes - again.Without Rule of Law assumes that such a time arrives when anarchy is pervasive, and the remnants of humanity are struggling to re-establish civilization. "Without Rule of Law: Advance Skills to Help You Survive" is geared the prepper wanting to develop the skills needed for acquiring food and other provisions during a prolonged period where the infrastructure is not able to provide a steady supply of basic goods. This book teaches proactive strategies that will be less useful to those with military training, but would be a good starting point of the "common" prepper.I'll say up front that this is not an easy book for me to review since it moves out of my prepping comfort zone of planning to "bug in" for as long as possible and then "bug out" when my stockpile of stores are nearly depleted. The strategies and methods include concepts such as "breaking and entering" and raiding other survivors supplies. The moral considerations aside, the planning and advice provide will almost certainly be useful if those actions should be required. The author recognizes that no book can predict the exact circumstances that may exist in a given area, so most of the thought process is centered on planning in advance, acquiring the required tools, scouting, and developing the skills and strategies before they are needed. The writing style was easy to follow and the inclusion of helpful illustrations made some of the points easier to grasp, but could have benefited from additional pictures.This is a good starting point and a useful addition to my growing library of prepper books.Recommended, with the caveats above.CFH

This book has a lot of information that is vital to understanding what happens when no rule of law exists. Very well written, a definite must for your library. Pack with photos and lots of scenarios.

A very good guide
For the price, I expected much more comprehensive comtent than what is offered.There is a heavy emphasis on what amounts to burglary methods and tools, and very little else.The few tactics techniques and procedures offered are very basic, like a simplified offering of what's taught during military basic training.I question the authors credentials and expertise on this subject matter.
This is a very basic book. As in, if you rolled off the couch and walked into an apocalypse, come Day 2 (if you're still alive), you already know more than the book. A lot of what it says is stuff that you can easily think of without having to have someone tell you. One of the best ways to look unimposing in an urban setting is to look homeless (duh). Blend in by looking like the populace (oh really?). I don't know quite what I was expecting when I bought this (maybe more along the lines of long-term survival in an urban environment), but this book greatly underdelivered. I guess, if I still had this book, I would use it as a catalyst for further discussion in a group. How we would implement and further develop the talking points. Overall, I'd say spend the money towards a more developed book.
So far as ive just started to read it it is incredibly insightful. Can't wait to finish this good book!!!!
