Wangerin imagines the thoughts and actions of the participants in the Easter story. Serious students of the Bible may take umbrage at all the things he makes up. I enjoyed his Advent devotional much more.
This is an excellent devotional that draws the reader closer to the Savior by looking at the different perspectives of the witnesses of the Passion of the Christ.I learned much as I looked at the different facets and view points of the Holy Week. This is a Great devotional for the Lenten season.
Excellent devotional describing the Passion of Christ as it works itself out in the lives of Christians. Sometimes hard-to-hear truths that must be faced to have a real relationship with the Lord. Each day includes scripture, reflections on the scripture, and a prayer.
The life of CHRIST JESUS is a well known story, however. Never have the events leading up to His trial,Conviction and death been related with such details and passion. One feels as they are witnesses to thisDreadful event. This is a must-read for all.
I always enjoy Walter Wangerin Jr.'s writing, and this collection of daily meditations did not disappoint. He has a way of bringing the reader into the story like no other author can. I have read the story of Jesus' Passion many times, but with these meditations, I was given the opportunity to experience the story with new eyes and fresh understanding.Excellent book! 5 stars.
I have a tendency to want to race through the Passion to reach Easter joy. Wangerin's daily devotions have helped me slow down and enter into the sorrow and pain that come before the Resurrection. Recommended.
This book is wonderful to use as a meditation enhancement. Walter Wangerin Jr. relives the passion from his own views. His decriptions brought me to places in meditation that I never traveled before. I felt as if I was with Jesus in Calvery at one point and feeling my own feelings to the passion at another. This was easy reading but intentensly emotionally. I used it as a lenten reflection and loved it.
