I got this for my 4 (almost 5) year old daughter and it instantly became her favorite book. She carries it with her outside most mornings and we just sit and listen to the birds in our yard and then we'll try and match the songs to a bird in the book. It's only been a week but she's already learned to recognize two different bird songs!In addition to the buttons that play the bird songs, each page has a paragraph about the bird, then goes on to list details about its size and color, what it eats, it's nest, and it's eggs. The adjacent page has a beautiful illustration of the corresponding bird.Birds Included: House Wren, American Goldfinch, Red-Winged Blackbird, Kildeer, House Finch, Great Horned Owl, Blue Jay, American Robin, Northern Cardinal, Mourning Dove, American Crow, Song Sparrow
If I could give this book 6 stars, I would! This is absolutely brilliant! A wonderful book for both children and adult beginner ornithologists.There are 12 common backyard birds found in this volume. For each bird, there is circle with its head shot that you press to hear its song. The sound is very clear and accurate.The pages are thick, like a board book. Each bird has a 2 page spread - one side has a full color, realistic picture of the entire bird, and a "Did you know?"The opposite page has the common name of the bird, the Latin name, a short, well written paragraph of basic interesting information, then a list of information following this format:'Found In' - 'Feeds On' - 'Nest' - 'Eggs' - 'Adults' - 'Length'The background of each spread is gorgeously illustrated, yet subtle. The background reflects commonly related things to that specific bird, adding visual knowledge to help with later identification.It is a work of art as well as a good bird book.I hope they make another volume!
This book is wonderful! My boys love it. The bird sounds are incredible and the information is not too much for a 4 yr old. I wish it wasn't completely broken after 3 weeks of use. It came in plastic so it couldn't be dead batteries. First the right side of bird buttons started to partially stop working and then the rest stopped. We were not rough with it. Really disappointed.
We love this book. I bought it for my 20-month old whom we thought would have to grow into it. But no, it immediately captured his interest and he took particular interest in trying (sometimes successfully) in matching the bird's face in the book, with the photo on the press-n-play.It's not only for children.. the book keeps its content brief, but the information contained in it was almost entirely new to me, and very interesting. (Did you know that red-winged Black Birds may have as many as 10 females in his territory? Or that Blue Jays can mimic the sounds of the hawk?) Very educational. And the sound quality? Fantastic.Very pleased with this book, and interesting for children and adults.
Very beautiful bird song in this book!! I got for twin granddaughters 5th birthday & they loved it! My daughter liked it as well because it was a very soft clear volume that wouldn't be annoying when girls play it. I loved it too because it's really educational to be able to identify birds by their song!
Great interactive books for little children. My kids enjoyed our study about birds. Great for bird watching and learning about birds. My son loved trying to whistle the birds songs and even my two year old daughter was identifying birds!! Great for home library with little ones who love nature and birds.
Excellent sound quality. Better than I hoped for. The kids are learning the bird sounds and spending lots of time with this book. They really enjoy it. If they get them all memorized, I plan to buy another book in the series. For those who are homeschooling, I would say the writing is in the "living book" style that we are looking for. It also includes basic imformation about the birds and an interesting fact about each one that the kids have remembered well. Love it!
Bought this for my little one. He has't yet grasped the concept of pushing the buttons by himself, but he loves hearing the bird songs! Definitely recommend for all ages of children!
