This book just under 10 hours of enduring the most annoying voice to explain a theory that could have been covered more effectively in ten minutes. They covered every piece of scientific data since the dawn of man that lead to their achievement. This lead to their argument being broken and lost in the vast amount of data they presented to cover up the fact that their ground breaking theory amounted to little more than what every middle school child understands about human nature. People want to acquire stuff, friends, knowledge, and then protect it once they have it. The specific way go about this is defined by the prevailing social norms in their area. I guess it doesn't even take 10 minutes to explain.

I had to read this book for my MBA. The first half of it is good, the authors give examples supporting their theory, which is interesting to know about. The second half, however, is full of conjectures and overstatements and I got the impression the authors had nothing new to say but kept outpouring their thoughts.The subject is interesting, but their presentation of it generally treats human nature in a very instrumental and utilitarian way, too Anglo Saxon to my taste :-) (depending on the point of view of objectivity, it may be an advantage). But I can say I came out better after reading this book.

Harvard Business School professors Lawrence and Nohria present a sociobiological theory of motivation directed to the business environment. They claim that humans possess four basic drives to acquire, to bond, to learn, and to defend. The unique approach in their book is the manner in which they apply their theory specifically to the workplace. Historical case studies are used to show that successful organizations are those that give their employees opportunities to fulfill all four of these drives. There are of course a number of competing drive theories from Freud's sexual drive to Steven Reiss's 16-drive theory. The authors, well versed in sociobiology, openly acknowledge that the numbers and exact nature of our drives need further exploration and provide suggestions for research projects. Irregardless of how many more drives one human may or may not posses their theory is enlightening for any reader. While being academic in its approach and presentation it is written with the lay reader in mind so any undergraduate will comfortably assimilate the information provided. The recipes look good! Can’t wait to try them. She went through great trouble posting the nutritional facts which I was so happy about but you missed one VERY big thing on each recipe!!! What is the serving size???? How did no one catch this? It clearly says how many servings but of what amount? Please does anyone know ? I need to find out.

From looking through this book, a lot of the recipes seem too complicated for a general every day cook. A lot of the ingredients just seem too fancy. Perfect if that's what you're looking for though! I was pretty bummed at how thin this book really is.

Book is about 1/8" thick, no pictures, the serving size is missing and the content is not really interesting.

The recipes are easy & delicious & use common foods. My biggest problem was all the typos. I would recommend this cookbook if you can look over the mistakes.

I looked at a number of books dedicated to providing advice for travel to Washington DC. I purchased this one after reading the reviews and reading the sample pages. And I was not disappointed. I found the information here to be very accurate and readable. It provided the basic facts needed to plan a good trip. We spent a total of 5 days in DC, and though I've been there twice before, I relied on the advice from these authors. Never once was I disappointed. If I ever spend as much time in another city that the authors have researched, I will not hesitate to purchase that book as well. Too many first-time tourists whom we met during our time in DC did not have a good idea of what they were doing, and I believe they probably ended up wasting a lot of valuable time in a city that is chock-full of things to do. Several times I was able to make a quick decision in just a couple of minutes by looking the information up by using the handy index.I do want to mention an earlier review of this book where the reviewer said that the book itself was too big to bring along. That's ridiculous. The book is not much bigger than a paperback and fits quite nicely in a backpack. My advice: Bring this book along with you while traveling around DC and you won't regret it.

Like the other Unofficial Guides we've used, this book paid for itself with the first piece of advice we looked up! After that, I scanned cover-to-cover, and by the end of the book we had a great sense of which attractions we wanted to visit and how to go about arranging our days. A gold-mine of tips for touring the places that are hard to get into in the post-9/11 era. It's also packed with information on neat things to see and do off the beaten path. You can't go wrong with this one!

The errors in this guidebook, let me count them.(1) Information on the Mount Vernon tours was wrong. The departure times for the two touring companies were mixed up. (It's a good thing I thought to call ahead!)(2) The phone number given for the National Archives was no longer in operation.(3) Yes, it's true the subway doesn't go to Georgetown, but as of 2006, D.C. offers a bus line, The Circulator, that does.(4) The Smithsonian National Museum of American History had already begun a staggered closing of many of its exhibits for a 2007 building renovation, something this guidebook never mentioned. (Thanks NMAH web site!)I bought this title particularly because it was published in 2005 & it was the most up-to-date, well-reviewed title I could find, but I found a handful of time-wasting errors in it over a span of four days.Being a first time visitor to Washington D.C. I would have appreciated a guidebook that had color photographs of buildings, monuments, & major art works, but except for the front cover this book has no photos. As for the book layout, I appreciated the subway & D.C. maps on the inside front & back cover, but I had a hard time finding sections of the book without laboriously using the index. This is not a guidebook to be looking through while you're on the go. The restaurant listings also seemed unnecessarily limited. I didn't spend much time sightseeing because I was attending a convention, or I, no doubt, would have encountered more inaccurate information.After thumbing through several guidebooks before my visit, I would recommend the DK (Dorling Kindersley) Eyewitness or Top 10 glossy photographic guidebooks. You can probably find sites with hotel ratings & information just as easily on the web. And you can always look up phone numbers & addresses for attractions in your hotel's yellow pages, which you may have to do anyway with this book. I wanted to purchase a guidebook that was text-heavy, but that also increases the odds that some of the information will be wrong.If you e-mail your U.S. Senator or Representative or visit the D.C. tourism website, they will send you free guidebooks with a Calendar of Events & descriptions of tourist attractions that are as helpful as what you will find in this book &, in my experience, more up-to-date. Three-and-a-half out of five stars for this guidebook. Wasted time is wasted money.

We are going to Washington, DC in October and this book will defininately help keep us out of trouble with traffic, transportation and getting around the area to see what we really want to see. There is a lot of specific information on the different regions of Washington, DC...someone really did their homework.

We just returned from a great visit to Washington, D.C. I purchased several tour guides before our trip. We were especially interested in suggestions as to what would be of interest to our 9-year-old son.This book was by far the most helpful. The book includes great suggestions for your visit to our nation's capitol. Especially helpful to us was that it rated every attraction by its popularity with various age levels (from preschool kids to senior citizens).You can leave the rest of the books at home, but don't go to DC without this one. And be sure to read it before you go!

Almost perfect DC travel guide. I went to a national chain bookstore and studiedevery book they had on DC. The unofficial guide is the best for general info on what to do,see and eat in DC.Good size not too bulky but really concise. Maps and all. I also purchased DK Eyewitness to DC because I liked the idea that it offered floor plans of some of the major sites and color pictures. I highly recommend theUnofficial Guide.Roben

We enjoyed the simple layout of the book along with the factual information about DC--We ended up using many portions of the book during our visit and found it to be accurate and concise. Even you have visited DC before, you'll find the information helpful. Recommendations of places to see and times to visit are great and you can tell that the folks who did the research, did a thorough job. You won't go wrong with this book.

I purchased this book prior to a trip to D.C. Even though my husband grew up in the area we found it very beneficial for our short two day visit. We had not visited in many years and found the "don't drive your car into D.C." advise was truly great advise. We enjoyed the train ride in and considered it just part of the adventure. We highly recommend this one.

If you love aviation as much as I do, the book will be hard to put down. Highly recommend to anyone that likes aviation and financial scams.

Check your books, three chapters of mine were upside down. Amazon made it right which is why it got two stars.

Needed this book for a Medical Aspects of Disability course and heard that the class itself was intensive. This book calmed my fears because the information included in the book isn't too technical and is easy to understand. Throughout the chapters, they bring up previous terms so it solidifies in your mind what the term means and how it applies across various conditions. Definitely would recommend for a good introduction to conditions.

I got my book and started to read through it. As I did this, a good chunk of the book is upside down and the chapters are not in order. Not pleased, seeing as this was not a warning that came when I bought the book.

Good book in great condition however while studying I’ve noticed that some of the pages are printed upside down. Some of the chapters as also mixed in between other chapters. Might just be a printing error.

This textbook is very clear and easy to understand. Usually college textbooks use a lot of jargon not this one. I'm learning so much from reading it. I will use it as a reference even after I'm done with the class I'm currently taking.

An amazing book! I read this as part of a course on rehabilitation counseling and opened my eyes to many issues that individuals with disabilities face. One doesn't have to know a lot of anatomy to follow this book. I learned so much! It was worth every penny.

My 12 yo saw this on the coffee table shortly after I opened the package. He picked it up, opened it, read the first question, dropped it like a hot potato and said, "WHOSE AWFUL BOOK IS THIS? THIS IS AN AWFUL BOOK. TAKE IT BACK." He ranted for a good 10 minutes about the book and was clearly embarrassed. Of course, that didn't stop him from actually *reading* it with his 13 yo brother later that evening. Yeah, they read it together, asking who actually needed to know stuff like this, how embarrassing, why did mom and dad buy such an embarrassing book ... Never mind that they were clearly reading it. And asking questions.These were pretty much all topics that we'd discussed openly since they were small, but some of them were things we hadn't thought to discuss and others were approached a little differently. And the book also gives them a chance to read and look things up on their own time when they might not want to ask mom and dad or might feel embarrassed about asking.Not everyone might be comfortable with the level of frankness in the book, but it's really not excessively graphic and is great for younger teens and kids going through puberty who are curious about what's going on with their bodies. It also discusses things like alcohol, smoking, drugs in age-appropriate ways.

My teenage daughter kept sneaking around to try and get answers to many questions on the internet leading her in all the wrong places. No matter how much I tried to talk to her. She asked many questions but still had a ton she didn't want to ask due to embarrassment. She enjoyed this book and opened up a ton more with me. This a great book to help get curious teens answers to questions you may not think they want to know. It also helps explain things more at their level and more bluntly for them.

There is no one way to have "the talk". For us, it just comes up organically. We have a middle school aged daughter. My husband and I have always been open and honest with her and answer any questions that she may have. This book just adds to that conversation. Occasionally, she picks it up, chooses a question and we discuss it. Sometimes we may talk about some of the topics in relation to a song that she is listening to or a show that we are watching. aSometimes the conversations are serious and sometimes we laugh! The language is very conversational and not sterile or preachy. I would highly recommend browsing through it and determine: your comfort level, consider your child's development, and your family's norms and values.

Perfect for my 12 year old. It says all I want it to and none of the more advanced material I see in teen books. This falls between the puberty books, which he read at 10 and 11, and the teens/20s sex books. Level headed focus - and as a bonus it discourages alcohol and mentions safety often. I believe it covers what he genuinely wants to know about sexuality. I could do without the mentions of anal sex, but the books all seem to have more of that than I'd expect. Otherwise, I wholly recommend. Essential and accurate information.

I left this in the bathroom for my teens and found that they were reading it. Format is great and found that questions very relevant and helpful for kids. I never had an issue with challenging topics, but for parents who might or kids that are too shy to ask, the book is great.

The questions are good for a preteen that just hit puberty. I read through it. Then gave to my 9 year old niece.

Great level for middle school age group. I have twin boy/girl and they pick random chapters to read out loud. We laugh and then talk.

This book is short and to the point. I bought it for a 14 year old boy and it made it easier to convey difficult and sensitive information about relationships and sex. Some topics made me cringe, but the reality is, these days once they hit their teens, it's never too early for them to get this information.

I have never seen a book that is more comprehensive and better organized!!! For anyone wanting to begin crystalline glazing, this book is perfect. The pictures of the glazed pieces in the book include all the information for the piece - clay body, glaze recipe, firing schedule - amazing! You can see the research scientist of the one author and the ceramic artist of the other on every page. I wish all pottery books were so informative!

As a pottery lover but not maker, I fell in love with crystalline glazing years ago but didn't know what it was called. I recently bought a crystalline-glazed bowl and went on a quest for a book on the subject. This is a spectacularly gorgeous book! I practically have to wear a bib to keep from drooling over the pictures. I was so pleasantly surprised that it arrived signed! The sharp, plentiful color images really illustrate what is possible with different glazes and temperatures. The fact that one author is an intuitive and experimental ceramic artist and the other is a detail-oriented physicist who meticulously recorded the results of experiments makes this book a gem for everyone. I bought this book for the images, but now I'm thinking of finding a ceramic studio where I can try out this visually exciting technique.

I have found this book to be the most useful book on Crystalline glazes. Having said that - I have not been able to replicate a single glaze from the formulas, firing schedules, etc... I think one has to experiment and develop their own results.
